2026 Cream City Medical Society Legacy Scholarship
The Cream City Medical Society Legacy Scholarship supports students from historically underrepresented groups who are currently enrolled in eligible doctoral-level healthcare or health-related degree programs.
Application Deadline
Applications must be submitted by August 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Purpose
The Cream City Medical Society established the Legacy Scholarship to support students from historically underrepresented groups who are currently enrolled in eligible doctoral-level healthcare or health-related degree programs.
Applicants must either be enrolled in an accredited doctoral program located in Wisconsin or be Wisconsin residents enrolled in an accredited doctoral program outside Wisconsin.

In keeping with this mission, the Cream City Medical Society funds an annual Legacy Scholarship for deserving students from historically underrepresented groups who are currently enrolled in eligible doctoral-level healthcare and health-related programs.
Scholarship Awards
The Cream City Medical Society will award scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000. Individual award amounts will be determined based on available funding and the scholarship committee’s review of each recipient’s application.
Scholarship funds will be issued directly to recipients and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, examination costs, transportation, and other expenses associated with the recipient’s doctoral studies.
For purposes of this scholarship, historically underrepresented groups include applicants from racial and ethnic groups that have been historically underrepresented in healthcare.

The application deadline is August 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Applications will be considered complete only when all required applicant materials and required reference letters have been received.

Selected recipients, or their designated representatives, will be expected to receive their awards at the Cream City Medical Society’s September meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Eligibility Requirements:
Be currently enrolled in one of the following eligible doctoral degree programs: MD, DO, PharmD, DDS, DMD, DPM, or a PhD program in a health-related field.
Meet one of the following geographic requirements:
Be enrolled in an accredited doctoral program located in Wisconsin; or
Be a Wisconsin resident enrolled in an accredited doctoral program outside Wisconsin.
Provide evidence of current enrollment through an enrollment verification letter, current transcript, or other official documentation issued by the applicant’s institution.
Be in good academic standing.
Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. Proof of citizenship or lawful permanent residency may be requested.
Be a member of a group that has been historically underrepresented in healthcare.
Have received the Cream City Medical Society Legacy Scholarship no more than once previously. Previous recipients may apply again; however, an individual may receive the scholarship no more than two times.

Personal Essay Instructions
In your essay, please answer the following questions:
What is your field of study?
Why did you choose this field of study?
How do you define the phrase, “healthcare disparity”?
How will you use your chosen field of study to reduce healthcare disparities in this country or around the world?
Essay limit: 3 pages maximum.

We encourage African American and other historically underrepresented* students who are currently enrolled in an eligible health-related doctoral degree program in Wisconsin, or Wisconsin residents enrolled in an eligible health-related doctoral degree program outside Wisconsin, to apply for the 2026 Cream City Medical Society Legacy Scholarship.
PLEASE NOTE:
Candidates do not have to be doctoral level students who are graduating. Cream City Medical Society welcomes applications from doctoral level students who are in the earlier stages of their doctoral level training program.
